I’ll always have a soft spot for Mike Mignola’s Hellboy and if he asked me to work on something with him I would absolutely rush at that (he joked with me once about a Bird Boy Hellboy crossover, though I think the doodles we exchanged that week at IMC were probably the closest we’ll ever get to one xD).

That being said, there’s a bunch of IPs I’d be hard pressed to turn down because I love them so much. I don’t really get a lot out of making comics for the sake of making comics either, which is why I’ve never pursued a career as a “comic artist” so much as pursued comics as a vehicle for telling my own stories. Not having a deep understanding or connection with the characters makes me kinda freeze, because I don’t know them, so I end up writing something sorta bland to, idk, protect them? I actually really don’t enjoy it, because so much of the joy of making comics for me comes from making my own long form stories/worlds and being able to change things at will, which immediately goes out the window when you have to stick to someone else’s world or characters.

I’ve had this chance a few times, not necessarily continuing a story with another person’s personal comic, but definitely have been asked to work on scripts/graphic novels of existing IPs.
